Adding plants to our living spaces not only enhances the aesthetics but also creates a calming ambiance.
Generally, plants are kept on the balcony or in the garden.
The bathroom or toilet is not a place where plants like to stay, and if there is no sunlight in the bathroom, it is not really recommended to have potted plants in the bathroom unless the light is on all the time.
But if you do want to decorate your bathroom with plants, then consider these plants:
1. Chlorophytum comosum
Spider plants are a popular choice for bathrooms due to their easy maintenance and air-purifying properties.
These plants have long, arching leaves with white stripes, creating an elegant look.
Spider plants thrive in bright, indirect light but can tolerate low-light conditions.
They are excellent at removing formaldehyde and carbon monoxide from the air, making them beneficial for indoor spaces.
2. Boston Fern (Nephrolepis exaltata)
Boston ferns thrive in high humidity, which makes them well-suited for bathrooms. These plants have delicate, feathery fronds that create a lush appearance.
They help in improving air quality by removing toxins like formaldehyde and xylene.
Boston ferns prefer indirect light, but they should be kept away from drafts and cold air.
3. Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis)
Aloe vera is a versatile plant known for its soothing gel that provides relief from burns and skin irritations.
This plant thrives in warm, humid conditions, making it ideal for bathrooms.
Aloe vera requires bright, indirect light, but it can also tolerate low light conditions. Additionally, aloe vera acts as a natural air purifier, filtering out toxins like formaldehyde and benzene.
4. Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)
Peace lilies are elegant plants with dark green leaves and white flowers. They thrive in low light conditions and high humidity, making them suitable for bathrooms.
Peace lilies also have excellent air-purifying abilities, removing pollutants like benzene and trichloroethylene.
It is important to note that while peace lilies are beautiful additions to bathroom decor, they can be toxic to pets if ingested.
5. Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata)
These plants have thick, upright leaves with variegated patterns, adding a touch of elegance to any bathroom.
Snake plants are known for their air-purifying qualities, filtering out toxins like formaldehyde and benzene.
Proper care is essential to ensure the health and growth of the plants. Most bathroom plants prefer indirect light and high humidity levels.
Exposure of plants to cold drafts should be avoided as much as possible. Regular watering is required, but overwatering should be avoided to prevent root rot.
Additionally, occasional fertilization and dust-cleaning of leaves can help maintain the plants' vitality.
