The camping industry has experienced rapid growth and consumer upgrades due to the pandemic dividend.
The customer base has gradually shifted from gamers to young people and families, meeting the physical and spiritual needs of people during the current pandemic.
In the routine and sparse life of modern cities, campers are often seen as "eccentric" individuals. They forsake well-organized tour groups, comfortable soft beds, and the sumptuous delicacies of hotels, venturing into the wilderness to get closer to nature.
Finding a patch of greenery, setting up a tent, preparing a table of food, and enjoying conversations and meals with friends – camping allows people to discover an alternative way of life amidst the concrete jungle, fostering intimate contact with nature and making "poetry and distance" within reach.
Why has camping become so popular? In interviews, several industry insiders mentioned the boosting effect of the pandemic. Indeed, while the pandemic has hindered long-distance travel, it hasn't suppressed people's desire to explore.
In today's era of "micro-tourism," camping, which allows for a brief escape without strenuous journeys, has become a trend, naturally fitting into the current situation.
After becoming a camper, your life, like that of many others, shifts from daily considerations of buying fashionable clothes to pondering where to see flowers in spring, where to watch the sea in summer, where to admire autumn foliage, and where to enjoy winter scenery. Perhaps, as you set off with your backpack, you may curse yourself for spending money to travel far, yearning for a comfortable bed and sumptuous meals back home.
But when you reach your destination, stand at the mountain pass, feel the cold wind on the summit, and witness the breathtaking views, you'll feel that it's all worth it.
Your daily thoughts about which movies to watch or how to complete a game level transform into attempts to acquire new skills – rock climbing, ice climbing, diving, canyoning, skiing, and paragliding.
Your once indifferent attitude towards strangers evolves into acceptance, engaging in conversations with people from all walks of life, chatting with elders who have never left the mountains, and exchanging experiences with adventurous young travelers.
If you've never shouldered a heavy backpack and walked, you'll never know the beauty along Route 318.
If you've never climbed a snowy mountain, you'll never see the view from the top.
However, while camping may seem cool, meticulous preparation is necessary due to various inconveniences encountered outdoors. As the pandemic subsides and the tourism industry recovers, will the camping economy continue to thrive? There may be a cooling of the industry trend, causing some impact.
Despite its seemingly low barrier to entry, the camping industry requires strong professional capabilities and continuous product iteration. It's too early to judge the future of the camping industry, but one thing is certain – boutique and graded camping experiences will be a development direction.
